The most private of Fernside's bedrooms, a light-filled super king set within the 1924 Neo-Georgian manor. Dressed in soft heritage florals, with a deep upholstered headboard, antique furnishings and a writing desk beneath tall sash windows, it looks out over the formal gardens and mature specimen trees. A secluded, elegant base from which to explore twelve acres of Arts and Crafts gardens, woodland walks and the reflecting lake made famous in The Lord of the Rings.

A serene king bedroom opening onto a curved bay window that catches the morning light over the gardens. Hand-painted botanical toile dresses the upholstered headboard and bedding, set against soft cream walls and a collection of green-painted French antiques. A white marble roll-top bath adjoins, with a striped Louis-style armchair set in the bay.

Fernside's most spacious room, a grand suite with its own sitting area, where a generous sofa and three tall sash windows look out over the formal box-hedge parterre and its Mercury statue. A super-king bed with a deep mauve velvet headboard sits beneath a striking wall of antique classical engravings, with blush-striped walls, fine mahogany furnishings and a private en-suite.
